For over a year, the CTF has been trying to get financial information on the Starbucks that was opened up by the Saskatoon Health Region in 2004.
Oddly enough, while governments have started such business ventures in hospitals across the country, and have been transparent about how they're doing, the Saskatoon Health Region seems to be bucking the national trend. They continue to refuse to release basic information such as the total revenues and expenditures each year for the venture.
I've documented the whole situation - here.
Well, here's an update. After pressure from the Information Commissioner's office, the Saskatoon Health Region has trickled out a bit more information. It's still not what we want, but it's a tiny step in the right direction. I'm still baffled as to why let out bits of info here and there, but refuse to disclose the big picture details like other health regions.
For example, see this story in Newfoundland and Labrador where a Health Region CEO spoke openly about what was going on with the government-run Tim Hortons at a press conference - click here.
